Agencies Table

Hi - Looking at Aid_Agencies and Donations ... 1st impression: they'd need slightly different table layouts, which is no major big-deal. But 2nd, on each page there's enough difference between items to require manual re-factoring. I think. I'm going to run a macro on Agencies that might handle most of the items. I hope. cheers --Bentrem 13:26, 14 September 2008 (CDT)

Yep, the table seems a little off on the Donations page. I borrowed it from a past project, so adjust it anyway that you see fit. I am inexpert at those type of things to say the least :) Bldarter 12:46, 15 September 2008 (CDT)
Hey, just came by to say you've done yoeman work on that page. Yet.another.half-assed.page would just be noise ... you've done a good bit more. cheers! --Bentrem 22:16, 16 September 2008 (CDT) p.s. I refactored this slab. Reverse chronological is not good for presenting exchange.

Obscure donation links at risk

I had about zero sleep last night from early morning emergency calls at work. But I am caffeinated enough now to be coherent and less grumpy :) Most of the vandalism I have seen on past projects has been of the automated bot type. I monitor past disaster wiki aid pages fairly often and any changes I run through my B.S. meter :) Oh, and the template warning edition looks good to me.

Has spoofing occurred on a monitored wiki yet? I link to a donation lead in page if possible, but if they use a recognized secure site, then it is not a big problem. But nevermind, I'll go away now, I'm tired

I am concerned about the risks of using Donation links that are not on the charity's own web site. Donation links can easily be added/manipulated by interlopers. I advocate for eliminating obscure donation links and setting up a periodic review process to assure all donation links point to the correct charity web sites.

Examples of donation links and bogus detection:

{{Template:Charity_disclaimer}}

WARNING: Due to the wiki's open and collaborative nature, it cannot guarantee the veracity of outside links or the absence of possible scams involving charities, thus the potential danger of fraud exists. In particular, beware of bogus organizations that have names similar to those of well-known aid agencies. Also beware of unsolicited emails that ask for your donation online. For those who want to make a donation, the most secure channels are established web sites and well-publicized telephone hotlines.

Pacific ocean vs. Pacific Ocean

Pacific Ocean should be capitalized.

If in doubt, see how Wikipedia spells a name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Ocean
