Interdictor/Transcription Draft

From Hurricane Info Wiki

[NOTE: We are in the process of moving from a full transcription mode into summarization mode and are presently updating documentation to reflect this. We need summarizers to be in each active channel posting a summary of feed traffic every 1-5min and another to post relevant, salient information to the #interdictor channel. This is a living document. Please update it with any new information and use the "Discussion" tab to record reasoning! --Bkdelong 17:38, 1 September 2008 (CDT)

Staff

When you enter the #interdictor channel on IRC server irc.freenode.net, introduce yourself to some of the Channel Operators as a Transcription Volunteer. Please put your availability and contact information on the Interdictor/Volunteer Schedule.

  • bkdelong restarted the project but has limited availability and is working behind the scenes on setting up organizational infrastructure.
  • StayTuned2 is taking the lead as manager to try and keep transcribers for the channels.
  • Eimann and Basementcoder are also project leads on IRC and they will determine who becomes staff/managers and will take the lead in ensuring rooms stay staffed with transcribers.
  • Serch is helping to bring in transcriptionists so you may want to check in with them
  • acarvin is helping get various other infrastructure setup and potential volunteer resources for all the various sites he's bring up (see Gustav Wiki and Gustav08 Ning). The Interdictor Project is contributing to his efforts as we offer something not yet available.
  • snax has limited availability and is working behind the scenes. Gathering information and vetting credible sources. Resident Mother Hen.

[NB: This list of staff should/will be added to as new Project Managers and Transcription Managers take on roles]

Roles

Everyone should have a "buddy" at all times. Please make sure you know who your replacement is at least 30-60 minutes before you leave and get it onto the wiki schedule. Never leave unless you have tapped someone as a backup.

Interdictor Project Manager

These are the people organizing the project, answering questions, keeping the infrastructure moving, and making sure there are always plenty of Transcription Managers working, on call or in the queue to be contacted for relief.

Transcription Manager

The Transcription Manager is in charge for making sure each channel has the 3 required transcribers and a queue of additional volunteers ready to go. They assist in transitioning a Backup Transcriber to a primary role and pulling in an On Call Transcriber when needed.

They will also work with other Transcriber Managers to pull needed resources from Secondary to Primary channels.

Transcriber

These are the people transcribing the audio in #interdictor-scanner, #interdictor-scannertx and other channels as they are created.

Primary Transcriber

This is the person doing most of the transcribing of a feed.

Backup Transcriber

This is the person actively listening to a feed and filling in any gaps that the Primary Transcriber may make., They are also first in line to become a Primary Transcriber

On Call Transcriber

This is someone actively on call waiting to replace either the Backup or Primacy Transcribers when needed.

Transcriber Queue

These are the people waiting to be transcribers. Listing and updating your availability with Transcription Managers is KEY. Also, providing additional contact information is helpful.
