    • GALVESTON, Texas (Reuters) - Texas urged thousands of people to leave Galveston on Monday as relief supplies failed to meet the needs of hungry and exhausted residents of the island city ravaged by Hurricane Ike and millions struggled to cope without power in the U.S. energy hub of Houston.     • GALVESTON, Texas - Nearly 2,000 people in Texas who refused orders to evacuate before Hurricane Ike have been rescued by land, air and water. A door-by-door search is under way in Galveston, where Ike came ashore early Saturday. [4]

    • Ike left extensive flooding and wind damage in the Galveston/Houston region
    • The highest surge Saturday morning was about 13.5 feet at Sabine Pass in Texas, according to tidal gauges. The surge at Galveston was 11 feet, about half of what was predicted. [5]
    • Galveston City Manager Steve LeBlanc said 17 buildings had collapsed on Galveston Island, the downtown was flooded and the causeway linking the island to the mainland had buckled. [6]
